Camp Games

I've been trying to brainstorm some on what we can do at camp for games. We have a couple of spots open in the week for activities. Some of those will be hikes, one will be messy day, and I believe one will be the camper/counselor softball game.

If we could pick an extra activity for the open spot, what do you guys think it should be?

Here are a couple of ideas:
  • Sweetheart Kickball - You divide into older and younger campers (so there are actually two games going on). The big deal about it is that at the beginning of the game, people from one gender have to pick a partner who is a member of the other gender. During game play, you must hold hands the entire time. If you break hands when you're kicking/running the bases, you're out. If you break hands while fielding, the runners are safe. This is the main game we played at the church camp where I grew up, and it's pretty priceless to watch the younger ones especially.

  • Male-Handicapped Boys vs. Girls kickball - This is another kickball variation where it's boys vs. girls, but you require all the boys to do something that will slow them down. For instance, one can only run backwards, one has to gallop, one has to walk on all fours, one is only allowed to kick/throw with his left foot/hand, we could bring along bucky and require one guy to hold Bucky for the entire game, etc.

  • Ultimate Frisbee - Hopefully you've tried this before. It's lots of fun. Then again, we can play it any time.

  • Ummm..... Chess.
Those are a few ideas. I know there are plenty of other good games out there. We'll be doing quite a bit of relay games on the first night we're there and also on messy day, so I'm leaning towards something that is an actual sport.

Would any of those have your vote? Do you know of any other games you think we should try?

A Mohawk for Chris and a Mullet for _________ ?

So....we need to start hyping up church camp to make sure that lots of people come. Chris Steele has volunteered to let us shave his hair into a mohawk if we can reach a goal for how many campers.

What do you think the target goal should be? 50? 75?

I'm thinking that not only would a mohawk be fun, but someone definitely needs a mullet for the week a church camp.

Any nominations?

Anything else we need to try with camp this year?

Getting Started...

I hate figuring out what to post first on new blogs. The goal of setting up this blog is to provide a place for our youth group to keep in touch during the week, to spend some extra time pondering what we study, and to share memories of our experiences. This summer should be a busy one, and I'm looking forward to all that we have going on.
