Upcoming Wednesday Night Classes

Nathan and I will be tag-team teaching the Wednesday night class for the next quarter, and we're doing a series dedicated to myth-busting. And not just the stuff about whether or not you can get beheaded by a ceiling fan...we're going to talk about stuff that people are really saying and believing all around us that is just...well, completely untrue!

We're looking forward to seeing YOU there! :-)

Some topics we'll address will include:
-The Consumer myth
-The Manhood myth
-The Egoist myth
-The Covergirl myth
-The Conformist myth
-The Puritan myth
-The Humanist myth
-The Love at First Sight myth
-The Pharisees’ myth
-The Anarchists’ myth

Movie Night

Movie night was fun! We enjoyed having you guys over to the house. Here are a couple of pics. After Shrek 3 and some intense card games (Cody...you need to c a l m d o w n. hehe) some people went for some Wii Sports. Chet--who is kind of the Justin Timberlake/Mel Blanc of our youth group--entertained us with his mad slide guitar skills and his nice new Les Paul. Those who weren't rocking or Wiiing (is that a proper usage of "Wii"?) were probably getting their hair straightened at Kelsi's make-shift beauty parlor a.k.a. our dining room. We're looking forward to everything else that's coming up this year!

Soundtrack for Valentine Banquet?

Hey Kiddos!

Coming up SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 9th is our annual Valentine's Banquet. Lori has taken the lead on organizing it, and I can already tell it is going to be really classy and really fun! If you would like to bring a friend along, you're welcome to, if not, it'll still be just as fun. I also understand the food is going to be top notch. ...But I need your help!

I am in charge of music. (We won't be dancing or anything like that, but we still want a nice environment that fits the occasion) I already know some of the songs I'd like to have playing, but what songs would you like? If you have 1 or 2 in mind, click below on "Comments" and tell me what you think!

Have yourself some OHYG Jam

We had a great time this year at the Dickens' house to welcome in the new year! Here is a video clip of some of us down stairs jamming. Many thanks to the Dickens for letting us come over and hang out!

Humility and Greatness

Class was fun tonight!

The girls worked up a definition of what humility is. Lindsey and Leah put together a charming skit about a fair princess with a basket crown who willingly gave her servant a drink of water when she needed it. Kassie filled us in with some relevant scriptures about humility.

The guys defined greatness in a way that actually stayed pretty closely connected to humility:
Greatness is having reverence for God, humility towards yourself, and the perseverance to keep it that way.
Great job everybody!

Prayers

Everybody be sure to pray for Cody's dad. He had surgery yesterday, and so far is doing well. It was a major ordeal, though, and we need to pray for his complete recovery.

Also be praying for Hannah. She's a trooper, but she's having a tough fight. Be sure you don't ever take good health for granted, because health is really a gift from God.

We also need to keep praying for everyone who's lost someone in the last few months.

God's Story for Man's Journey - 2008

Our theme for the year of 2008 is God's Story for Man's Journey. This year we are going to really emphasize the importance of the Bible. We believe it is inspired and came from God. We believe it ought to be the authority in our lives for how we should live. Because we believe these things, we have a responsibility to know what it says. Hopefully this will be a refreshing year as we all are reminded again what an incredible blessing it is to have the Word of God to bring us hope and guidance.
